Hogwarts Legacy Mods and Tweaks Roundup - Improve Graphics, Performance, Gameplay and Much More

By all accounts, the open world RPG Hogwarts Legacy has had a highly successful commercial launch and an equally warm reception among fans and critics.

That doesn't mean there is no room for improvements, of course. The developers have just released a new patch, but PC users can do much more to expand and enhance the game thanks to the plethora of Hogwarts Legacy mods and tweaks that have already been prepared in mere days by the budding community. We've organized the most noteworthy changes and upgrades by category below. Reflective Window Tint

Hogwarts Legacy Mods and Tweaks Roundup - Improve Graphics, Performance, Gameplay and Much More

Like many recent PC games (especially those made with Unreal Engine), Hogwarts Legacy doesn't exactly run flawlessly on most rigs. Thankfully, being made with UE4 has the upside of allowing for tweaks via the Engine.ini file located in your AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor folder. The first and most downloaded (so far, at least) of the Hogwarts Legacy performance mods is called Ascendio and adds the following parameters to the aforementioned file:

[SystemSettings] r.bForceCPUAccessToGPUSkinVerts=True r.GTSyncType=1 r.OneFrameThreadLag=1 r.FinishCurrentFrame=0 r.UseVSync=True r.TextureStreaming=1 r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072 r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1 r.MaxAnisotropy=8 r.DynamicShadows=True r.MinShadowResolution=1024 r.MaxShadowResolution=3072 r.ShadowFadeExponent=1.0

Keep in mind that this mod's default streaming pool size setting (3072) targets 8GB GPUs like the GeForce RTX 3070, which struggles a lot in Hogwarts Legacy. If you have more VRAM, you can easily bump that value to 4096 or 5120.

Another easy tweak that NVIDIA users can make is enabling ReBAR. As with the Dead Space remake, NVIDIA did not whitelist this feature for Hogwarts Legacy yet, but early findings from CapFrameX show that ReBAR improves both low FPS and average FPS. I've since confirmed that in my testing. To enable ReBAR in this game, just use NVIDIA Profile Inspector as mentioned here and select the first setting for both ReBAR Options and ReBAR Size Limit.

If you're fine with performance and want to boost the visuals instead, first and foremost, check out the raytracing quality tweak we covered last week. By default, the raytracing in Hogwarts Legacy is far from impressive, but you can enhance reflections and ambient occlusion with a modest performance cost by adding the following settings in the Engine.ini file:

[SystemSettings] r.RayTracing.Reflections.ScreenPercentage=100 r.RayTracing.Reflections.SamplesPerPixel=1 r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness=0.7 r.RayTracing.AmbientOcclusion.Intensity=1

Needless to say, it's only recommended for high-end configurations. For those who'd still like to improve the graphics but would rather suffer a lower performance cost than that imposed by ray tracing, here's how to enable Screen Space Global Illumination, as pointed out by SnakeyHips on NexusMods.

[SystemSettings] r.SSGI.Enable=1 # Whether to enable SSGI (defaults to 0). r.SSGI.HalfRes=0 # Whether to do SSGI at half resolution (defaults to 0). r.SSGI.Quality=2 # Quality setting to control number of ray shot with SSGI, between 1 and 4 (defaults to 4).

Owners of GeForce RTX graphics cards have another easy tweak to perform. Avalanche Software shipped an old version (2.3.1) of the DLSS file, which can be safely replaced with the more recent 2.5.1 release (downloadable via TechPowerUp) to deliver sharper image quality. Sadly, the latest DLSS Super Resolution file (3.1.1) does not perform well with this game and should thus be avoided for now.

Moving on, a few Hogwarts Legacy mods attempt to improve certain aspects of the visuals. For example, the developers chose to apply a grey, foggy-like tint to the game that may not be the best fit for a magical fantasy world. Modders have largely attempted to go about this goal in two ways: changing engine parameters to remove fog, depth of field, blur, lens flare, and other post-processing effects, like this mod , or using ReShade to offset those problems, like Accio Clarity , currently the most endorsed in this category. Take a look at two comparison screenshots for each.

Finally, there's a mod dedicated to improving the quality of FMVs (Full Motion Videos). NexusMods user NomNom1712 interpolated them to 60FPS and also cleaned them up a bit with deblockers and denoisers.

There are already lots of Hogwarts Legacy mods that improve aspects like controls:

Others, like those made by BorisJohnsonLied, expand the capacity and production of the Vivarium and Room of Requirement while also allowing players to conjure anything in the former room. Are you looking to follow in the footsteps of Voldemort? The Avada Kedavra Faster Cast mod lets you greatly decrease the cooldown of the infamous curse spell. Do note that to use this mod in conjunction with the Vivarium and Room of Requirements mods, you will also need to install the mod merger, as they would otherwise overwrite themselves.

Are you stumbling upon the Arithmancy puzzles? No problem, you can either add the numbers near the icons to make them simpler or just get all the solutions already. Do you wish the reset your character's talents? This application lets you fix that.

One of the most downloaded Hogwarts Legacy mods is called Paler and Darker Skins for Player Character , doing exactly what it says. Another adds facial hair to male characters, while plenty more focus on makeup and complexion additions:

There are a few clothing mods, too, whether you fancy using a longcoat or a miniskirt. Owners of the Deluxe Edition can also tweak their Dark Arts robes removing the skulls and/or the smoke effects.

Of course, there are some broom and wand mods - including one that makes your magic stick look like Voldemort's.

Are you tired of being startled by Ignatia Wildsmith, the fast travel lady? The Silencio mod will make her permanently silent, and its creator promises it will work across all languages officially supported by Hogwarts Legacy.

Speaking of languages, the base game does not support selecting different languages for voiceover and text—however, the mod Language and Subtitle Options - Any Language Any Test fixes that.

Many Hogwarts Legacy mods also aim to improve the game's default User Interface (UI). Most of them have self-explanatory titles, so here's a list:
