As the world mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at 96 years old after serving as the highest ranking member of the royal family for over 70 years, did you know that a member of her family once visited here in Montana?

Yes, a future King spent time on a Montana ranch several years ago.

It was in the summer of 1992 when a young Prince William, who wanted to get away from England as his famous parents were going through a rough spot that would eventually lead to a divorce, came to America—specifically, Montana.

According to ABC News, Princess Diana arranged for young William to visit and stay just outside of Missoula at the E Bar L Ranch. It was a "secret" vacation, and according to the article, stayed a secret for decades.

William, who was just 10 years old at the time, dove right into the Montana lifestyle. He fished, shot guns, rode horses, and even partook in some good-old-fashioned games like dunking his face in water and then trying to eat crackers off a table covered in flour.

Apparently, the Prince also decided to introduce those at the Montana ranch to some English tradition as well, as he and his bodyguards put together a game of cricket for them all to play.

Of course, a lot has changed since that summer in 1992.

Prince William is now a husband and father, and next in line behind his father King Charles III to be the King of England. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing as the world focuses on him and his family, he would give darn near anything to come back and spend a few days here in Montana.
