DeWitt N.Y. — A man jogging in DeWitt was killed Wednesday afternoon when he was hit by a large industrial-size forklift loader, police said.

The equipment was moving construction supplies along New Venture Gear Drive when the man was hit, DeWitt Police Chief Chase Bilodeau said at the scene near the former New Venture Gear plant.

The man was struck at 1:58 p.m. on the shoulder in front of 6600 New Venture Gear Dr. and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.

Police have yet to identify the man, Bilodeau said. The man was wearing sneakers and athletic shorts.

The driver of the loader stayed at the scene after the accident, he said. There is no indication the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, he said.

The loader belongs to a roofing company, Bilodeau said.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident, he said.
